Academic and Professional Engagement

The Resource Center's mission is to advance academic excellence and professional development by leading progressive initiatives aimed at cultivating active campus engagement. Academic and professional engagement goals include the following:

▪To promote the advancement of academic and professional objectives by providing teaching-and-learning, tutoring, and professional-development services in a comfortable, accessible, and supportive environment;

▪To offer guidance and direction in developing professional goals, targeting lifelong learning desires, and pursuing service activities;

▪To bolster academic engagement and pedagogical enrichment by offering resources, professional development, best-practices strategies, and research-driven direction; and

▪To enhance and support the development of curricular, departmental, and campus pursuits.

amy sayre-roberts Amy Sayre-Roberts is the Director of Resource Center and an Associate Editor to Quiddity International Literary Journal and Public-Radio Program.
She holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Fiction from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where she completed a novel, and taught Creative Writing, and Rhetoric. She also holds a Masters of English Literature from the University of Illinois at Springfield, and a Bachelors of Science in History/Political Science from Murray State University in Murray Kentucky. Her short stories and essays are published in various literary magazines and anthologies, including Sou’Wester, Ninth Letter, and Chicago Noir. She is currently working on a collection of short stories.
joyce surbeck-harris Joyce Surbeck-Harris — Learning Disabilities Coordinator
She has a BS in Education from Illinois State University in Special Education, Learning Disabilities and Emotional Disorders, MS in Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Early Childhood Education and Developmental Education Administration, a PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK, in Adult Learning and Education Program Design and Development. She has over 30 years experience in public schools, state government, and post-secondary education.
